FaceTime Adds Content Control for Blogs, Webmail and SocNet Sites

September 30, 2009

New Zealand security distributor Information Safe (www.informationsafe.co.nz) announced today that it is now shipping the latest version of Unified Security Gateway (USG) from FaceTime Communications. USG 3.0 is the first secure web gateway to combine content monitoring, management and security of Web 2.0 applications, with URL filtering, malware and web anti-virus protection. USG 3.0 provides granular control of not just Web sites and internet applications, but also the content posted to blogs, wikis, webmail and social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

With USG 3.0, content posted to the internet can be monitored, secured and recorded - reducing outbound data leakage and enabling compliance with industry regulations, legal discovery requirements and corporate policy standards. For heavily regulated industries such as the financial sector or government agencies that need to comply with the Public Records Act, the new functionality in USG 3.0 will ease concerns over compliance and data leakage via Web 2.0 applications, which traditional security tools are unable to protect against.

"Recent events in the New South Wales prison service have shown the necessity to control all content posted to the web and the need to expand employee policies," says Kailash Ambwani, president and CEO of FaceTime Communications. "Users will continue to bring Web 2.0 applications such as IM, webmail, blogs and social networks into the organisation and IT managers can either try to lock down the network, or they can secure these applications and reap the benefits of social media collaboration without losing control."

In addition to content control, USG 3.0 incorporates a highly visual reporting engine that gives an innovative bird's eye view of user behaviour across Web, IM, P2P and social networks. New integration of on-board antivirus scanning technology in combination with USG's URL filtering and malware engine reduces the risk of Internet-borne malware and viruses. USG 3.0 may be integrated with a Web/FTP proxy server, such as Bluecoat, through an ICAP-based connector or deployed in simple pass-by mode - a plug and play deployment which requires no change to existing network configurations.

"We knew that some degree of Web 2.0 application usage, was happening our network, but our initial evaluation of USG, gave us the full picture," says Ted Hickman, Global Network and Telecommunications Manager, Cook Group Incorporated. "USG now gives us granular control over what our users can do, we've shut down a host of unauthorised P2P usage and we're now monitoring and reporting on our users' behaviour across the whole Web 2.0 spectrum."
